My name is Jim Johnson. I am my daughter’s Science Fair project.
I am 53 and I need help. I’m over weight and if I don’t make some changes, my life won’t end well. Hannah, my 3rd grade daughter, is going to “save my life” in this project. She is going to learn the effects of diet and different types and intensity of exercise on my life – weight loss, waist line, and blood pressure.
Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be following her plans and we’ll see what happens. I’ll be updating my progress on this site as well as my thoughts, feelings, and insight as we go along. I’ve asked Hannah to periodically blog here, too.
Hannah will be consulting with local nutrition and exercise experts. She will be researching what foods I should be eating and which ones I should be avoiding. She will be learning about what exercises are best for weight loss and my heart. She will be using My Fitness Pal app and the blood pressure app that I’ve been using for a couple of years. She will be logging a ton of data and then analyzing it. The Haverhill Elementary Science Fair is on February 27, 2013.
We’ll include photos and videos when we can. If I find some good recipes, I’ll share them. If a particular exercise works well for me, you’ll know that, too.
We begin on Monday, December 3, 2012. Yes, we’re going to start this before the Christmas holiday eating season. Read along. Post comments. Share recipes. Share ideas. I would appreciate your encouragement.
Hannah is excited for this to start.
Let’s get this Fat Dad to turn into a Fit Dad. I’m up for it!
(Yes, I drive a Honda FIT. This was my destiny!)

What dads will do for science…this is great. You can’t beat this as a motivational tool. A third grader’s science fair project as well as your daughter’s project. I am guessing you both will learn more about life than any planets made out of styrofoam. It is going to be a long project but if you stick with it the benefits are endless
Thanks for the comment! Yes, this has been fun and a good learning experience for both my daughter and me!
